Restoring Balance: New Visions for Food and Activity Conference
When the Program in Nutrition celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2009, we held a conference that presented new visions for food and activity that could create a hopeful future for all.

School Food & Community Conferences with Baum Forum
In conjunction with Baum Forum, we hosted conferences in 2007 and 2008 that brought together educators, policy makers, school food advocates, and others to discuss and create new visions for food in our nation’s schools —  from the lunchroom to the classroom and beyond.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Conference with Just Food
From 2003-2010 Teachers College hosted this annual conference. Over the years, the conference grew from about 100 people to more than 400 people. Community Supported Agriculture — buying a share in a farm at the start of the growing season and receiving a share of the harvest, usually on a weekly basis — is growing in New York City. In the early 1990s there was one CSA in New York City; in 2010 there were more than 100. Just Food manages and provides support to the CSAs in NYC.

New York City Food & Climate Summit Steering Committee
Drs. Contento, Koch, Gussow, and Liquori served on the steering committee for this conference hosted by Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer. The conference was attended by 1,000 people and resulted in the FoodNYC: A Blueprint for a Sustainable Food System report released by the Manhattan Borough President’s office.
